Mate XT
A kinetic symphony of polished surfaces and folded screens unfurls across a visual saga dedicated to the Mate XT – Ultimate Design: a pinnacle of innovation, masterfully framed for Huawei.
Invited to join forces in 2024 with CCLab for the innovative Chinese brand, we took part in shaping elevated and memorable imagery that could balance elegance with edge, unfolding the story of an avant-garde device through an interplay of neat lighting, detail-glory, and a sophisticated pace.
Our involvement spanned every layer of CG creation, from early research and development frames to designing sleek lab environments, beauty-led product moments, animated wallpapers, and richly detailed 3D simulations. Each aspect merged into a unified and shared pursuit: to carefully capture the spirit of a phone that feels one step ahead into the future.
When solemn motion and material celebration blend together, they reveal the smartness of the device, hovering seamlessly between style and function. It is in this delicate balance, where every gesture is portrayed as both meaningful and beautiful, that the true intelligence of the device becomes apparent. Not merely a tool, it embodies an aesthetic sophistication that enhances its utility, allowing it to exist comfortably at the intersection of art and innovation.
Showcasing the art of engineering, with a sparkle of elegance.
At the heart of the Mate XT’s narrative lies its three-folded screen, a sculptural feat of engineering that redefines the very act of interaction. More than a display, it becomes a dynamic canvas: folding, expanding, and adapting with fluid precision. This interactive act sets the stage for a choreographed dance of reflections and light fractures, where each motion is mirrored in the environment, creating an almost meditative visual rhythm.
Our approach was to elevate not only the boldness of the fold itself but also to draw attention to the nuanced craftsmanship embedded in every millimeter of the device. We intentionally highlighted and enhanced each iconic feature, ensuring that nothing went unnoticed. Chief among them: the exquisite camera ring, encased in a bespoke vein pattern, organic in its flow, deliberate in its execution, and whispering of artisanal finesse. This detail, subtle yet symbolic, embodies the product’s duality: a device forged in precision, yet emotionally resonant.
The camera ring became a symbol within our narrative, a point of visual gravity around which material, light, and motion could orbit. In close-up, the veins shimmer like geological patterns, echoing both natural formations and digital complexity. This tactile elegance becomes a visual signature, reinforcing the story of a phone where every design decision carries both purpose and poetry.
A research and development journey where the obsession to highlight even the tiniest feature of the device perfectly embodies the brand’s design vision.
DevelopmentThe two different productions we were involved in, the first with CCLab and the second with Gwantsi, allowed us to craft a significant number of development studies and animation explorations.
Throughout the visual language we developed, materiality and craft took center stage. The unique metallic surface treatments, as well as the refined hinges and edges, each single detail was studied, replicated, and dramatized to evoke elevation and precision.
The camera’s innovative lensing system was presented through a highly enriched x-ray approach, where both optics and the device structure converged in an epic slow-motion alignment. These sequences were not only willing to be immersive, but they also aimed to let the viewer appreciate the state-of-the-art mechanics beneath the aesthetics.
Every frame a fold, every detail a decision.
Wallpaper design became an act of storytelling, too. Layers pulse and fold like a smooth, lively, and shiny sculpture, embodying the idea of elegance and glorification of details. The visuals borrow from the device’s foldable structure, breathing in time with its gestures, folding and unfolding like silk wrapped around circuitry.
